and he is a stray from Camanche. His femur head was
broken and this dear little kitten never stopped purring.
So we decided to have a surgery done to repair his leg

In April of this year the Clinton Humane Society began a wonderful
journey with a special animal. That journey ended happily this
week end at a wonder sanctuary in Nevada.
A beautiful dog was dropped off in our outdoor kennels in April.
It was evident to us immediately that we were dealing with a wolf
hybrid. She was timid and unsure of her situation, so we knew
we had to act quickly for her sake. It was decided that only two
of the staff would work with her for a short time to gain her
trust and to make her comfortable. We generally do not adopt wolf
hybrids, as they can be unpredictable if not raised correctly,
and this family left us no information.

We
named her Miriah, and that is where the story begins. We discovered
an animal that had been well cared for. She seemed to be housebroken,
she knew how to sit and lie down. All of this, but when we looked
at her, into her, we could tell she was lost and certainly not
happy. One of the staff (way to go Michele) started walking
her daily to gain trust and to get her the exercise needed.
She spent a great deal of time with her daily to ease her uneasiness.
She certainly liked it outside the kennels runs better than
in the kennels. Her personality start to blossom and we saw
little glimpses of play and joy. She loved to have some petting
time and a good lean on the person petting her. She was terribly
thin though, so we wormed her and gave her extra feeding and
treats. Well, by the time she left us, she had gained a needed
10 pounds. And by this time, she was giving two of us some loving
kisses when we sat with her.
A search was started nationwide for a wolf hybrid rescue or
sanctuary. Of course like our shelter they were all full, with
a long - long waiting list. Many of the rescues were helpful
with contact information, but alas nothing could be found. So
we waited. While we waited Miriah flourished and we fell head
over heels in love with her. She was a kind and gentle spirit,
but was lost in the wrong body and world. We could still not
tap into her happiness and what she needed.
She had passed her behavior evaluation and she passed with flying
colors, although she was only tolerant of other dogs. It took
some time for me to consider this, but I decide we might try
adoption. But everyone that came in asked about the "wolf"
in the kennel. No one with any type of qualifications even inquired.
Now it is August and the shelter is running way past capacity
and we are starting to be concerned with Miriah. But, I made
a promise to Miriah and the staff about her and this promise
I would not break. We are having a difficult time giving her
the attention she so desperately needs. A very trusted volunteer
at the shelter started walking her for us when she was in town,
which helped a great deal keeping Miriah happy. (Great job Patty!)
Against every instinct in my body I posted her nationwide on
the internet and to my delight, we were contacted by two wonderful
wolf and wolf hybrid sanctuary's. One was on the east coast
and one in the state of Nevada. I found out they were both wonderful
sanctuaries and had to make a decision based on Miriah's happiness.
I chose the one in Nevada, as they were looking for a special
wolf hybrid to replace a beautiful spirit named Momma, they
just lost to cancer. Miriah may have the chance to be and education
hybrid, she certainly has all the social qualifications going.
After
many conversations with the Kelli at the Bacho Nowhidee sanctuary
(meaning My Brother The Wolf) in Nevada, arrangements were made
to get Miriah to them as soon as we could. So, on August 15th,
we started the journey west to her new home and new life. Sunday
morning we arrived at the sanctuary and she was introduced to
her new clan slowly. It took less than an hour, and our little
Miss Miriah had won the hearts of not only the wolf hybrids
in her enclosure, but the founders were just jumping for joy
at her lovely spirit. (OK Chris, I know you do not jump for
joy, but had to say it). These two wonderful people care for
the lost wolves and wolf hybrids that humans have tried to make
pets. The critters in their care receive the best of the best
and are allowed to be who they are meant to be. They are no
longer lost, but become happy and free to live the spirit of
the wolf that was meant to be. Miriah took to Kelly immediately
and it was evident Miriah was now really home. By the next day
C.J. was getting kisses, this was the first male that I had
seen Miriah take an actual liking too.
Kelly and Chris (C.J) opened their home and hearts to me and
Miss Miriah. I had the opportunity to meet two very special,
dedicated and caring individuals who care deeply for the animals
in the sanctuary. That part of the journey will stay with me
forever. The shelter staff and myself are honored to have been
a part of this journey with our Miss Miriah. I had to opportunity
to see joy and happiness come through her eyes; I had the opportunity
to meet two very special people that will love and care for
her forever.
Miriah you came into our lives unexpectedly, your world was
rocked. But
you learned to trust again, you forgave. You
left a part of your heart and soul with each one of us, we will
never forget you Miss Miriah, thank you.
Kelli and C.J.
One of my favorite sayings,
"This is the beginning of a new day. You have been
given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it
for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging
a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will
be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left
behind
let it be something good."
Needless to say, you have done something marvelous.
